What makes A Wood Wick Candle So Special? | Folklore Apothecary

There’s something quietly enchanting about a wood wick candle. As the flame flickers to life, it releases a gentle crackle— like the soft whisper of a fireplace on a winter night. The sound alone can make a room feel warmer, more intimate, as if time itself has slowed just for you. Here’s what else sets them apart:

    1. Clean, even Burn

  • Wood wicks create a horizontal flame that melts wax more evenly across the surface, reducing tunneling (that annoying wax ring around the edge).

  • They also produce less soot when properly trimmed, keeping your jar cleaner and the air purer.

  • Trim the char from your wood wicks before each use. This will help with lighting, embers & debris.

    2. Sustainable & Natural

  • Most wood wicks are made from sustainably sourced hardwoods (often Forest Stewardship Council certified), and many come from natural or untreated wood — no additives or metals.

  • This makes them a great eco-conscious choice.

  • We use FSC certified cherry wood wicks in all of our candles.

   4. Unique Flame Aesthetic

  • The flame on a wood wick is typically wider and lower, giving off a warm, flickering glow that feels luxurious and intimate — perfect for creating atmosphere.

   5. Longer Burn Time

  • Because the flame burns more slowly and evenly, wood wick candles often last longer than cotton wick candles of the same size.

   6. Enhanced Fragrance Throw

  • The even burn helps the wax pool melt completely, releasing fragrance evenly across the candle’s life.

  • The gentle heat can help amplify scent diffusion, especially in soy or beeswax candles like the ones we create.
Each of our handcrafted, wood wick candles, burn with a quiet grace — a soft glow, a gentle crackle, and the lingering beauty of a flame that soothes the soul.
